1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Norwich St Peter Mancroft |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of St Peter Mancroft lies in the heart of the
commercial district of Norwich, for many the area surrounding the church
is the "centre" of the city. Nowadays a relatively depopulated
area during the Victorian era it was a bustling heavily populated district.
As can be seen from the varied occupations of the fathers in this parish
it was an area where the great and good rubbed shoulders with the artisans,
tradesmen and service providers of the age. This was a heart-bed of manufacture
and sales, sadly only the latter survives today. |

These records were deposited as three register
books, the first two books of 800 and 2400 entry layout are microfilmed
on MF/RO70, the balance post 1873 is filmed on MF/RO71 in the collection
of the Norfolk Record Office. In such a long run of entries there are always going to be diffculties with variable hand-writing and it is such here that a few entries are difficult to read. Also the two films are of a vintage filming and not to the excellent standards achievable in recent years. Whilst this hasn't impacted significantly as most entries are filmed with good contrast and are easily viewable, there are periods and individual enties which have been written with a light pen and these are faded and require scrutiny to decpher. Whilst every effort as always has been made to transcribe accurately the plethora of transient names could lead to a few errors in this transcript. |
