Great Yarmouth Old Independent Meeting House

Baptisms 1813 to 1880

In common with many Independent Meeting Houses that in the port of Great Yarmouth was founded during the time of the English Civil War, documentary evidence indicates a foundation of c1642 at a time when religious fervour away from the established church was flourishing for the first time. It is not known when their chapel in Gaol Street was erected and it was the first of many homes, later the congregation met in Middlegate and later still in Greyfriars Way. Records for the congregational date back to the early 18th century but this transcript was prepared from the register deposited with The National Archives which is their deposit RG4/2472. This is simply a plain, unruled book into which entries are entered.
