The parish of North Wootton lies in western Norfolk about
3 miles north of the port of King's Lynn and forms part of Norfolk's coastline
with The Wash. North Wootton, previously a separate village, has come
largely within the sphere of the growing town of King's Lynn, it forms
the northern edges of what is now a contiguous urban area whilst retaining
a village feel. Whilst a coastal community extensive grazing marshes spread
westwards from the village with the shores of The Wash being over 2 miles
away across flat reclaimed land. These grazing marshes would have formed
the principal economic income of the parish at the time of this transcript,
today North Wootton is a commuter settlement for its larger neighbour.

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and ran on into the mid-20th century before completion. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1384 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. Whilst not one of the more recent excellent films the microfilm was adequate to the task making for a straightforward piece to prepare. |
