Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Great Witchingham lies to the north-west
of the city of Norwich in the valley of the River Wensum. The parish straddles
the A1067 and is more familiar for present day travellers as the village
of Lenwade. Today the parish is famous (or perhaps infamous) for the Hall
which is the home of Bernard Matthews turkey empire. The settlement other
than Lenwade is rather scattered across the fertile plains to the north
of the Wensum. |

The two registers covered by this transcript were recently filmed but on separate films. The first register was filmed on Microfilm MF1636, the second MFRO656 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. Both films are recent filmings and with excellent clear and contrasty images. As a result the only barrier to an accurate transcript remains the writing of the cleric. As usual there are caveats regarding this but on the whole this was a straightforward exercise. |
