Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of East Winch lies in
western Norfolk about 5 miles southeast of the port of King's
Lynn. East Winch sits on the A47, the busy main road which crosses
Norfolk from King's Lynn via Norwich to Great Yarmouth from west
to east. Whilst a small village sat upon the A47 East Winch has
expanded northwards in modern times with new development along the
lane leading towards Gayton. East Winch sits on marginally higher
land to the north of the course of the River Nar, its
water-meadows providing some variation in the traditional Norfolk
farming scene dominated by arable fields. In addition a large
common, now a wildlife reserve occupies much of the land to the
south of the A47 opposite East Winch's Hall. East Winch once had a
railway station on the Midland & Great Northern line
connecting King's Lynn with East Dereham albeit that line has been
closed and largely dismantled. |

Two standard 800-entry register books cover the period of this transcript. The first, running to 1867 is filmed on Microfiche 4 & 5 whilst the second runs onward to completion in the late 20th century and is filmed on Microfilm MF910. In addition to these resources digitised imagery of the first register is freely available to view on Familysearch whilst both registers are available to subscribers of the major commercial sites. As a result, and despite some somewhat chaotic clerical work, this did prove to be a straightforward piece to prepare. The early register has many entries completed out-of-date-sequence and later the register's numbering is impacted by periodic starting of new years on new pages. |
