Baptisms 1813 to 1880
Wiggenhall St Germans is one
of a group of four parishes in West Norfolk. It lies south of King's Lynn
alongside the River Ouse which runs through the centre of the current
village. The village sits at the end of the Bedford Middle Drain which
crosses the greater part of the Fens before passing through huge sluices
into the Ouse. The area is still largely devoted to agriculture exploiting
the Fenland peaty richness. |

Records for St Germans have only
been deposited to 1846 which are filmed on Microfilm MF567, thereafter this
transcript has been compiled from deposited Brishop's Transcripts. Regrettably
1869 & 1870 are missing from this deposit, giving a gap of 37 entries
in this transcript. The 1st register to 1846 is very clear and legible and those BTs prior to the gap are similarly easily read. After 1870 the records have been less well treated by time and are not at all easy to read. Fortunately the common names of the parish were easy to determine, it is only in the one-off entries that errors could occur. Despite the source, hopefully few errors will have been made in this transcription. Once the post 1846 records are deposited a check of the BTs will happen and the missing gap filled. |
