1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Wickhampton St Andrew |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Wickhampton lies in eastern Norfolk, it
is a small parish in the grazing marshes lying between Great Yarmouth
and Acle and south of the A47 road which is the main east-west road crossing
Norfolk. Even today this is an isolated area of narrow winding lanes,
the land is barely above sea-level and is characterised by drainage dykes
and ditches and atmospheric windmills once used to remove water from the
fields. In days gone by this was all wetland, the land of the watermen
and wildfowlers. |

A single standard 800-entry register covers the period of the transcript and indeed continues beyond the project end date. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1600 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The film is of the quality achieved by more modern films, however, the clerical standard of the book leaves a lot to be desired with many out-of-sequence entries and entries with incomplete dates. On the whole this was a straightforward transcript to prepare but there are entries which were less than obvious so a complete clean bill of health cannot be issued on this occasion. |
