Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Weeting lies in southwestern Norfolk in
the heart of Breckland and just north of the Suffolk border. The parish
lies about 8 miles northwest of the market town of Thetford and just north
of the Suffolk town of Brandon. The compact village centre is just west
of the A1065 road which links Brandon to the market town of Swaffham.
Weeting is at the western extremity of the expanse of forest and heath
of Breckland where the land slopes down to the Fens. Much of the parish
is concerned with forestry nowadays but in the past rabbit warrening and
flint production were important local industries. |

A single standard 800-entry register covers the period of the transcript, indeed it continues until 1891. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1660 in the collection and from which this transcript was prepared. The film is a relatively modern one which benefits from the superior quality achievable nowadays with clear and crisp images. As a consequence this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is hoped few errors will have crept into its production. |
