The parish of Tuttington lies in northeastern
Norfolk about 2 miles east of the market town of Aylsham.
Tuttington is a small village which sits just over 1 mile east of
the A140 road which connects the city of Norwich through to Cromer
and which now bypasses Aylsham. Tuttington sits on the land east
of the valley of the River Bure albeit by only a few metres in
height, enough to keep its feet dry. The area, like much of
Norfolk, would have been almost totally devoted to arable farming,
but Tuttington was fortunate in having water meadows along the
Bure and it tributaries which varied the nature of the farming as
grazing was possible along those water-meadows. A tiny parish by
acreage, covering just 850 acres in extent it was one of many such
small parishes within this area of Broadland. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but also runs onward to completion in the late 20th century. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF706 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office. Like many Norfolk parishes online imagery is also available, free on Familysearch and with a subscription on the major commercial sites. With those diverse sources available this was, therefore, a straightforward piece to prepare |
