Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Tittleshal and it's subsumed partner Godwick
lie in Central Norfolk, about 5 miles south of the market town of Fakenham
and about the same north-west of East Dereham. Godwick was an ancient
parish which stood north-east of Tittleshall but all is in ruin and there
are no independent registers. The village is compact and set around a
three-way junction of lanes leading to Fakenham, Stanfield and Litcham.

Two registers cover the period of the transcript - a completed standard 800-entry book and part of the next book to finish. Both books are filmed on microfiche 10 through to 12 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The fiche are elderly but the registers must have been in a superb state of preservation as the standard of clarity is exceptional for such a poor media, indeed the parish was blessed, for most of the period, by hand writers of excellent clarity and as a result this was a pleasure to transcribe. It is to be hoped few errors of transcription have crept into the document. |
