Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Thurton (not to be confused with nearby
Thurlton) is situated in southeast Norfolk. The village lies on the A146
road which connects the city of Norwich to Beccles and Lowestoft. The
village sits in a shallow bottom where the main road crosses a tributary
of the River Yare, most of the village is set on the main road or on the
lanes which run off the broad junction at the bottom of the hills. |

A single standard 800-entry register covers the period of the transcript and continues to modern times reflecting the relative small population of the village. This register was filmed a considerable while ago and is held on Microfiche 3 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. Sadly this fiche is less than perfect in having misty and low resolution images, as a result there was frequent reference to surviving Bishop's Transcript entries to determine the entries where the image was unclear. Despite these difficulties it is hoped a true copy has been collected in this transcript. |
