Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Themelthorpe lies
in the northeastern portion of central Norfolk about 3 miles west
of the small market town of Reepham. Themelthorpe is a tiny place,
little more than a hamlet which sits a couple of miles northeast
of the A1067 road (Norwich to Fakenham), most properties line a
lane leading southward from the church. Themelthorpe was a tiny
parish of just 652 acres, one of the smallest rural parishes in a
county of numerous small parishes. Unlike most Norfolk parishes
that tiny acreage was occupied by a mixed farming regime with
pastures in almost equal measure to arable. Considering its small
size Themelthorpe had an unusual status as a railway junction, the
Midland & Great Northern lines from Norwich to Melton
Constable here crossing the line connecting Aylsham with
Fakenham; both lines are now foot & cycle paths offering
exercise rather than transport. |

Such was the small size of this community, fewer than 100 parishioners, that a single standard 800-entry register book begun in 1813 lasted into the 21st century before being deposited, This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1661 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. In addition to this traditional resource there are digitised images for those with a subscription on the major commercial web sites. This was, therefore, a straightforward piece to prepare. |
