Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Stoke Holy Cross lies south of the city
of Norwich and east of the A140 which links Norwich to Ipswich, the village
being about 4 miles south of the city boundary. The village is nowadays
quite substantial being a popular commuter village, the original settlement
lies along the lane which links Norwich to Hempnall and which flanks the
flood plain of the River Tas. A major source of employment for the villagers
was the mill built in 1776 by Colman's to mill their seed for the famous
mustard. |

A single standard 800-entry book covers the period of the transcript. This is a relatively recent deposit and consequently has been recently filmed. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1670 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The quality of the filming is excellent with clear and contrasting images. As a result this was a straightforward transcript to prepare although on occasion the handwriting was troublesome it is hoped few errors will have crept into its production. |
