Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Stanhoe lies in North-western Norfolk just
inland from the North coast and on the high country between Docking and
the Burnhams. Stanhoe lies at the junction of two minor "B"
roads about 2 miles east of Docking where the Docking to Burnham Market
road meets that coming north west from the King's Lynn area. Most of the
village of Stanhoe is along the Docking road with cottages also scattered
around the cross-roads and the village pond. Stanhoe still has its shops
and pubs and is popular nowadays with second home owners driven from the
glamour of Burnham by the high prices. |

Two standard 800-entry registers form the deposit which covers this transcript. The first runs to 1868, the second runs from thence up to very recent times. The first register was deposited many years ago and is filmed on Microfilm MF989, the second was deposited relatively recently and is filmed on Microfilm MF1630 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. The films ably indicate the improvements in filming quality in the intervening period; the first register is adequate to the job but lacks crispness and clarity in contrast the second film is a superb example of quality filming and a joy to read. Despite the issues with the first film this was, however, a relatively straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped few errors will have crept into its production. |
