Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Scole sits in southern Norfolk a couple
of miles east of the market town of Diss and bordering the River Waveney
which marks the southern edge of Norfolk. The village was formerly traversed
by the busy A140 road from Norwich to Ipswich but has now been by-passed
to the west. Scole village is compact and grew up where the busy road
crossed the Wensum to service the passing traffic with many inns and stables.
The main street is much quieter now but still retains the aura of a coaching
stop. |

Two standard 800-entry register books cover the period of the transcript. Both books are filmed on Microfilm MF1387 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The microfilm is a relatively recent filming and the quality is good with clear and contrasting images. The standard of handwriting was also better than many making this a straightforward transcript to prepare. It is to be hoped that few errors will have crept into its production. |
