Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Saxlingham lies in north Norfolk, about
3 miles west of the market town of Holt and the same from the northern
coast of the county. Saxlingham should not be confused with its south
Norfolk counterpart Saxlingham Nethergate. The small village is clustered
around a T-junction of lanes to the west of Holt on the eastern bank of
a small tributary of the Stiffkey River. The land is rather undulating
for Norfolk being overlaid with glacial moraines giving a light stony
soil. |

As a rather small congregation just a single register book covers the period of the transcript, indeed this register continued in use until 1901. The register is filmed on Microfiche 3 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was produced. The fiche is rather elderly with wishy-washy images but fortunately the state of preservation of the register is such that this did not present too much of an obstavle to a straightforward transcript. It is to be hoped that few errors will have crept into the production. |
