Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Salle lies in
northeastern central Norfolk just under 2 miles northeast of the
small market town of Reepham and just north of the B1145 that
connects Reepham with Aylsham. Salle is an estate village, no real
compact village centre and dominated by the grounds of Salle Park.
There is a scatter of properties along a lane leading northwest
from the Park's entrance and passing the church but nothing which
would pass for a village centre. Like many estate parishes Salle's
economy would have been determined by the needs of the estate,
here arable would have dominated but, according to old gazetteers
a proportion of 1/3rd would have been set to pasture, a high
percentage for the area. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but runs onward to completion in 1924. This register is filmed not only on fiche (fiche 4 & 5) but has been re-filmed on microfilm MFPR27 both in the collection of Norfolk Record Office. In addition to these legacy resources in recent times digitised images have appeared for those with a subscription on all of the main commercial sites enabling better quality images to be available. As a result this was a straightforward piece to prepare. |
