1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Ringland St Peter |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Ringland lies in
eastern central Norfolk about 7 miles northwest of the city of
Norwich. Ringland is a strip of a village lying on the southern
banks of the River Wensum, most properties are placed along a
rising lane from the bridge westwards to the church. Ringland sits
just over 2 miles north of the A47 road which crosses Norfolk from
east (Great Yarmouth) to west (King's Lynn). At the time of this
transcript Ringland, like most in Norfolk, would have been a
farming village; here the arable fields typical of the county are
diversified by pastures alongside the Wensum. Today Ringland is a
growing village, with easy access to the city of Norwich it has
seen modern development on a small scale and its attractive
setting on a meander of the Wensum and surrounded by modest hills
makes it a popular place. The Wensum's banks often throng with
visitors on warm summer days, river bathing being a popular sport
from near the bridge. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and runs onward to completion in 1885. This register is filmed on Microfiche 7 & 8 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office but fortunately, given the elderly fiche being of poor quality of image, better imagery is available online. Images are free to view on Familysearch and for those with a subscription on all of the major commercial providers. This online imagery was used in preference to the rather aging fiche and made for a relatively straightforward piece to prepare. |
