1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Reymerston St Peter |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Reymerston lies in central Norfolk about
5 miles south of the market town of East Dereham. Reymerston is a largely
linear village with most properties lying along a lane (The Street) which
runs east to west through the village. Reymerston sits about a half mile
to the west of the B1135 road which connects East Dereham with Wymondham.
The area around Reymerston, even today, is a broad level (around 50 metres
above the sea) plain dominated by large arable fields growing cereals,
beet & oil seed. At the time of this transcript cereal growing would
have provided the mainstay of the local economy. The building of the nearby
Mid-Norfolk Rail line would have brought some connectivity but this line
was axed in the Beching cuts and is mainly used as a heritage line today.

A single standard 800-entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but also runs onward to completion just prior to World War 1. This register is filmed on Microfilm MFRO497 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office, images are also available on Familysearch as well as the main subscription web sites. The film is a recent one and benefits from the clearer crisp images available from recent filming as a result this was a relatively straightforward piece to prepare just the usual grumbling regarding cleric's handwriting. |
