Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Raveningham lies in southeastern Norfolk
part of the splinter of land south of the River Yare which extends deeply
into Suffolk towards Lowestoft. Raveningham is about 3 miles southeast
of the market town of Loddon and the parish is south of the B1136 which
connects Loddon to Haddiscoe Bridge. There is no defined centre to Raveningham
just a collection of farm houses and cottages spread to the south of the
B road. Dominating the parish are the grounds of Raveningham Hall (the
seat of the Bacon family) which, with the church in its grounds, probably
indicates that this was a closed estate parish with the landowning family
dictating the comings and goings of parish residents. |

A single standard 800-entry register covers not only the period of the transcript but also extends to the mid 20th century finishing in 1953. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1701 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The film is a modern one with all the benefits of improved film standards. It has clear sharp and contrasting images and despite some occasionally scruffy hands was a straightforward transcript to prepare, it is to be hoped few errors will have crept into its production. |
