Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Little Plumstead
lies in eastern Norfolk about 6 miles east of the city of Norwich.
Little Plumstead sits roughly 2 1/2 miles north of the A47 road
which connects Norwich with the port of Great Yarmouth. The
original village of Little Plumstead has been much transformed by
commuter growth over recent years and is merely one of a series of
settlements along what would once have been the southern edge of
Mousehold Heath. Mousehold Heath is an extensive area of sands and
gravels deposited during the ice ages and which had poor
agricultural merit, much being left to bracken & broom. Today
with modern machinery arable fields dominate the area and the
Heath is a mere remnant within the city of Norwich's outer ring
road. Much of the southern portion of the parish is domonated by
the former mental health hospital of Little Plumstead Hall which
is being repurposed into modern housing in the early 21st century
following a fire in 2016. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but runs onward to completion in 1892. This register is filmed on Microfiche 4 & 5 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office. These fiche are rather elderly and show their age, fortunately digitised copies are available, free to view on Familysearch and for those with a subscription on all of the major commercial sites. As a result of these resources this was a straightforward piece to prepare. |
