1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Ovington St John the Evangelist |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Ovington lies in west central Norfolk about
a mile north of the small market town of Watton. Ovington is a rather
small place sitting a half mile east of the A1075 road which connects
Watton with East Dereham. Much of Ovington lies along the lane which connects
that road to nearby Carbrooke and also on a side spur (Church Lane) but
it is still a relatively small and lacking in facilities of larger neighbours.
The area is intensively agricultural, with large cereal fields predominating
and such would have been the main economy at the time of this transcripts
albeit in much smaller fields. |

A single standard 800-entry register covers not only the period of this transcript but runs onwards to complete in the mid-20th century. This register is filmed on Microfiche 3 & 4 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office but since online images are freely available on Familysearch these were used in this instance as the fiche are of poorer quality. The piece was straightforward to prepare with only the usual grumbles regarding handwriting. |
