1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Little Ouse St John |
Baptisms 1860 to 1880
The parish of Little Ouse lies in extreme western Norfolk
deep in the Fens and sitting right on the border with neighbouring Cambridgeshire.
The parish was created in 1860 from parts of Hilgay parish together with
extra parochial areas from both counties. This is an area of flat agricultural
land chequered with manmade drainage channels, a rich agricultural landscape
dominated by arable and market gardening. The soils are deep black in
colour from the peat of the former waterlogged ground, they stand barely
above sea level if not below that level. |

A single standard 800-entry register covers the period of this transcript, the register is deposited with Cambridgeshire archives and since it has not been filmed it was viewed as is. Obviously there were no image issues and the handwriting was mostly perfectly adequate, hopefully few errors will have been made accordingly. |
