1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Norwich St Benedict |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of St Benedict lies in the western portion
of the city of Norwich. The parish is the most westerly of a series of
churches that line St Benedict's Street which now lies on the line of
the Roman east-west route through what is now the city. St Benedict's
is a small parish, tucked away and surrounded by St Giles, St Margaret
& St Michael Coslany. St Benedict's was a significant shopping street
but now is the home of specialist small shops and restaurants, bypassed
by the commercial centre of the city which has migrated through the creation
of new malls. |

Two register books cover the period of the transcript. The first, a 1600-entry register, runs through to May 1866, the second a standard 800-entry register runs to the end of the transcription period and beyond to 1891. Two copies of these registers exist, an ancient microfiche copy which is frankly unacceptable and more recently a second filming on Microfilm, the first register is filmed on Microfilm MF/RO324 and the second on MF/RO348 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. Both films, while more readable than the fiche, are still of less than satisfactory quality which probably reflects the state of the original registers. Despite this an acceptable image was obtainable and as a result this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped few errors will have crept into its production. |
