1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Mattishall Congregationalist |
Baptisms 1828 to 1873
There has been a long history of nonconformism
in the Mattishall area, the routes of this congregation go back to the time
of the Civil War. The Independent belief has been strong amongst the middle
classes of both Mattishall and East Dereham in particular. Whilst there
are other registers for this faith they are classified elsewhere. This deposit
which covers the period 1828 to 1873 relates specifically to the Mattishall
Congregation which worshipped at Old Moor until a new chapel was converted
in Welgate. There are indications that an extension of this register to
the end of the project period still lies with the church, if this register
does eventually enter the public domain these records will be added here. This register is filmed on microfilm MF1620 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The register is a large ruled book with each entry spread across a double-page - care is needed to read across the double spread to ensure details are not cross-compiled. Otherwise the images are acceptable and the handwriting legible if difficult at times. The entries are un-numbered; the numbering below merely serves to indicate the order in which the entries appear in the register. |
