Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Marham lies in West Norfolk midway between
the market towns of Swaffham & Downham Market and just north of the
A1122 main road which connects those two. The village is largely built
along a wide lane which links Fincham to Narborough and lies just off
the flood-plain of the River Nar. A substantial nucleated settlement,
the village and parish is now dominated by the airbase which lies southeast
of the village and its substantial military settlement between the village
and airfield. Although a substantial source of local employment the noise
and threat posed by military jets is a mixed blessing. |

Three standard 800-entry registers cover the period of the transcript, the third register continuing beyond into modern times. All three registers are filmed on Microfilm MF1436 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. This film is a relatively recent filming and has clear and crisp images which are easy to read and interpret; there is some periods where the handwriting is a little ragged but on the whole this was a straightforward transcript to prepare. It is to be hoped that few errors will have crept into its production. |
