1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Lingwood St Peter |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Lingwood lies in eastern Norfolk to the
east of the city of Norwich in the valley of the River Yare and just south
of the main east-west A47 road. These days it is very much a commuter
settlement serving the city with much modern development, during the period
of this transcript it was essentially an arable farming area with most
inhabitants working on the land or in ancillary trades. The small community
of parishioners was augmented by the building of the Blofield Union Workhouse
in the parish which swells the number (of particularly the illegitimate)
baptisms far in excess of that expected. |

The records within this transcript were transcribed from two deposits, the first ledger is filmed on MF/RO239 whilst the latter enties come from MF1649. Both filmings were clear and with good images. As a result this was a relatively straightforward transcipt to create, the only caveat, as usual, being that the standard of hand-writing was variable and with the high instance of "strange" names from the Workhouse it is possible that interpretation errors may have occurred. It is to be hoped that these are few, |
