1813 to 1880 Baptism Project King's Lynn Primitive Methodist Circuit |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The Primitive Methodist Circuit based upon the port
of King's Lynn was founded in 1825, a few back-dated baptisms
are recorded to 1823 in their registers, however. The circuit
was administered from premises on the town's London Road and
covered not only the port itself but also a wide area of western
Norfolk. Parishes as wide ranging as Rougham, Heacham &
Grimston were well represented as well as those south along the
route of the A10 and west along the A47 & A17, Norfolk's
Fenland. There are 3 registers deposited at Norfolk Record
Office all 3 filmed on Microfilm MF1724, there are currently, as
of September 2023, no digitised images of these registers. The
first register FC54/210 is a pre-formed register with entries
spread across a double page spread and segregated by
hand-ruling, the register is manually numbered, in a differing
hand, which appears to have been added later. The second
register FC54/211 is a standard parish-type register pre-stamped
with its numbering, the register continues beyond its natural
ending on manually ruled sheets, the third register FC54/212 is
also a standard parish-type register but is manually numbered in
the same hand as the first register. These registers show the
typical faults of such circuit registers, many records out of
date sequence, erratic spelling verging on chaotic (all entries
have been left as written) and frequent clerical errors such as
birth date after baptismal date and also incomplete date &
even naming details. Several entries have been omitted as there
was insufficient completed data to merit such inclusion. As ever
the handwriting left a lot to be desired being challenging at
times, there is likely to be misreading of some entries as a
result. |
