Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Ickburgh lies in southwestern Norfolk about
6 miles north of the market town of Thetford. Ickburgh is a small settlement
lying on the B1065 road that connects Swaffham with the Suffolk market
town of Brandon. Ickburgh sits as a satellite to its larger neighbour
Mundford, the two are separated by the River Wissey. Ickburgh sits in
the heart of Norfolk's Breckland, an area dominated today by forestry
plantations that would have been largely used for grazing sheep and running
rabbits in warrenries, there would also have been important forestry industries
such as charcoal manufacture. Today there is very little to Ickburgh,
just a scatter of houses along the main road. The eastern part of the
parish is dominated by the military presence with a large area out-of-bounds
within the STANTA battle area. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of the transcript and runs on well beyond. This register is filmed on Microfiche 4 & 5 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office, however better images are available to view on the free web site Familysearch and these were used to prepare this transcript. This was a straightforward piece to prepare with little in the way of difficulty beyond the normal issues of handwriting. |
