Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Holme Hale lies in central Norfolk about
5 miles east of the market town of Swaffham. Holme Hale is a large village
sitting about 2 miles south of the A47 road which connects the city of
Norwich with King's Lynn. Holme Hale is a bit of a straggle of a village
with properties strung along an "S" shaped lane for well over
a half mile. Like most villages in Norfolk Holme Hale would have been,
and still is, an arable farming community. The parish had a few pastures
in the valley formed by the upper reaches of the Wissey but largely it
was typically covered in large arable fields. For a short while Holme
Hale was connected by rail, the Swaffham to Watton line has, however,
long been dismantled. |

Sadly not all of the register covering the period of this transcript have been deposited. A single standard 800-entry register book runs from 1813 to finish in 1874, the second book has yet to make its way into the public domain, The 1st book is filmed on Microfiche 5 & 6 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office but superior images are available to view freely on Familysearch and with a subscription on the main commercial sites and these were used in preference to complete this transcript. The only available records covering 1874 to 1880 are the Bishop's Transcripts which, also sadly, are incomplete in that 1875, 1879 & 1880 are missing believed lost. As a result this transcript is incomplete, should the 2nd register finally make its way to NRO it will be updated and completed. |
