Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The tiny parish of Hellington lies in southeastern Norfolk
about 7 miles southeast of the city of Norwich. Hellington is little more
than a hamlet, with barely a handful of farms and cottages scattered along
a lane running northwards from the A146 Norwich to Loddon road. The area
has many small parishes and there are probably 7 other parish churches
within a 2 mile radius of Hellington. As a consequence of its small acreage
the parish also had a small population (below 100 parishioners in most
censuses) which is reflected in the short transcript below. The area around
Hellington is almost totally devoted to arable farming although a few
pastures lie along the valley of the small stream which separates Hellington
from its northern neighbour Rockland St Mary. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period, it ran on into the mid-20th century too. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF585 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. Whilst not one of the more recent films MF585 is of a reasonably quality making for a relatively straightforward piece to prepare. |
