1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Hanworth St Bartholomew |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Hanworth lies in
northeastern Norfolk roughly 5 miles north of the market town of
Aylsham. Hanworth sits just under 2 miles west of the A140 road
which connects Norwich with Cromer. Hanworth is a curiously
scattered village, a small centre around a triangular village
green and the remainder spread across th edges of its common.
Hanworth was principally an estate village, largely owned and
managed by the estate of Hanworth Hall, home to the Doughty
family. Like most Norfolk parishes Hanworth was primarily an
arable farming community, however, its location on the edges of
one of the River Bure's major tributaries, the Scarrow Beck, gave
it access to some pastureland. This area of the county has a
mosaic of tiny rural parishes, Hanworth occupies a mere 1,350
acres with 7 others all within a mile or so. |

A single standard 800-entry register covers not only the period of this transcript but runs onward to completion in the late 20th century. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF585 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office. In addition digitised images of this register are available to view online, free to view on Familysearch and for those with a subscription on all of the major commercial platforms. Given this wealth of resources this was, in consequence, a straightforward piece to prepare. |
