1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Gunton St Andrew |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Gunton lies in northeastern Norfolk roughly
5 miles northwest of the market town of North Walsham and west of the
A149 which links North Walsham and Cromer. The whole of the parish now
lies in the extensive Gunton estate (owned by the Harbord family from
1676 until 1980. Most of the parish is formed of stately parkland with
ornamental features, revealing views and pastoral lakes. As can be seen
from the occupations of the fathers in the transcript this was a shooting
estate during the Victorian era. |

A single standard 800-entry register deposited in 1983 covers the period of the transcript. This was a lightly populated parish and this register covers 170 years of baptisms. The register is filmed on Microfiche 2 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The fiche is rather elderly and lacks clear and easily read images, this was a struggle to read at times and reference was made to the easier to view images on Familysearch on occasion to determine some entries. In combination this proved to be a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped few errors will have crept into its production. |
