1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Gunthorpe St Mary |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Gunthorpe lies in
central northern Norfolk roughly midway between the market towns
of Holt & Fakenham, being 5 miles west of the former and 7
miles northeast of the latter. Gunthorpe sits about a mile south
of the A148 road which links those two towns. Gunthorpe is a small
crossroads village dominated by the grounds of its eponymous Hall,
the present building was remodelled in the late 18th century for
the Reverend Collyer. Most properties are, however, grouped
loosely around the junction of lanes linking Gunthorpe with both
the A148 and the equally small villages of Sharrington and
Brinton. Like most Norfolk parishes the main staple of the economy
was arable farming and today this continues to dominate the local
landscape. The grounds and economy of the Hall and its occupants
would also have provided income and employment opportunities. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and runs on to completion in 1910. This register is filmed on the rather elderly microfiche 5 & 6 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office. Fortunately we need not rely on these poor quality fiche as digitised images of this register are both freely available to view on Familysearch and also, for those with a subscription, on all of the commercial sites making for a straightforward piece to prepare. |
