1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Frenze St Andrew |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The tiny parish of Frenze lies about 1 mile east of the
market town of Diss, it is probably one of the smallest rural parishes
in the county (so small its doesn't make it on to Phillimore's county
map!). Frenze lies in lanes to the north of the A1066 road which links
Diss along the Suffolk border to Bungay and is also next to the main Norwich
to London railway line. There is little to the parish other than scattered
farms and cottages plus its eponymous hall. The presence of church and
hall together is often indicative of a "closed" parish where
almost all landholding is controlled by the a single landowner and who
restricts inflow of people; as a consequence a village doesn't develop.
Frenze nowadays is probably most known by walkers as both the Angles Way
& Boudica's Way footpaths pass through the parish and by the church.
As for the future, given the expansion of Diss beyond the railway line
it is perhaps inevitable that one day Frenze will be absorbed into the
market town. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and indeed continued to be used until 1972. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF738 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. Given the low volume of entries the handwriting changes frequently so any impact of poor quality is minimised, the film is of a reasonable quality thus making for a straightforward piece to prepare. |
