Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Framingham Earl lies about 5 miles southeast
of the city of Norwich and sits in lanes just south of the A146 road which
connects Norwich and the Suffolk market town of Beccles. Framingham Earl
is a tiny parish of just 500 acres, making it one of the smaller rural
parishes in the county and its population barely reached 3 figures. Today
Framingham Earl has almost been engulfed by its larger neighbour Poringland,
a growing suburb and commuter village for the nearby city. Framingham
earl would have largely been an agricultural place and despite the nearby
modern developments that still dominates the local scene today. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and indeed as not completed and closed until the early 21st century such was the small population. As a consequence of this recent deposit the register, which is filmed on Microfilm MF1709 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office, benefits from the better quality films of today. As a consequence this was a straightforward piece to prepare thanks to clear and crisp images and only minor grumbles about handwriting. A curiosity of these records is the baptism of a set of quads in 1817 and given the father's occupation I expect he was kept very busy indeed. |
