Baptisms 1813 to 1880
Foxley sits astride the A1067 roughly mid-way beween Norwich and Fakenham. Like most parts of rural Norfolk it was an essentially agricultural district with the majority of inhabitants engaged in farming or associated activities. The 1851 census shows one family to be dominant, WOODHOUSE, this too is reflected in the baptism register. Today Foxley is best known for "Foxley Wood" a fine example of a coppiced woodland preserved to the present day and a delightful place for a walk or a picnic. | |
The original transcript for Foxley
parish was prepared from the barely legible Bishop's Transcripts which were
the best source available at that date. However, in September 2006, the
original register was deposited with the Norfolk Record Office. As a consequence this revised transcript was prepared from the original register. As such the legibility was very much improved highlighting errors in the original transcript, the missing periods were also available to be added and information on mothers' Maiden Name and child's birth date was much more complete than on the original entries. It is to be hoped there are few remaining errors in this re-transcribed parish. |
