1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Fakenham Primitive Methodist Circuit |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The Primitive Methodist Circuit for Fakenham &
District was created in 1822 rather strangely from the
Nottingham Circuit, which must have been rather extensive. The
Circuit for Fakenham covered not only the market town and
surrounding nearby parishes it also extended to the northern
coast with places such as Wells next the Sea being particularly
represented. Registers start from 1822 with a register deposited
with The National Archives, their reference RG4/1362, a simple
unruled book which has been hand-ruled into individual entries.
There is a short gap, filled with a few back-dated entries
before 3 registers deposited with Norfolk Record Office,
references FC18/49. FC18/50 & FC18/51. Each is a standard
800-entry book pre-printed as a normal parish register of the
Rose era. A word is required regarding numbering, the first
register is un-numbered, the second has a number of pages
manually completed beyond the end of the book, these are
numbered with a page number prefix. The third register is a
pre-stamped typical register whilst the fourth has no numbering
at all, the sequence number has been added to aid in re-locating
an individual entry. The register follows the typical faults of
such registers, many records out of date sequence, erratic
spelling verging on chaotic (all entries have been left as
written) and frequent clerical errors such as birth date after
baptismal date and also incomplete date details. Several entries
have been omitted as there was insufficient completed data to
merit such inclusion. As ever the handwriting left a lot to be
desired being challenging at times, there is likely to be
misreading of some entries as a result. Legacy films of the
registers are on MF1148 for the first register and MF1778 for
the subsequent three, digitised imagery of the TNA register is
available for those with appropriate subscription on many of the
commercial sites. |
