Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Edingthorpe lies in
northeastern Norfolk roughly 3 miles northeast of the market town
of North Walsham. Edingthorpe sits only a couple of miles from
Norfolk's eastern, North Sea, coastline. A small village in a
small parish, the whole acreage barely being just over 700 acres,
Edingthorpe is just a quarter of a mile of cottages alongside a
narrow lane (Rectory Road) which parallels the busier road between
North Walsham and Bacton. Like most parishes in Norfolk
Edingthorpe was an arable farming community, indeed early
gazetteers state that barely 45 acres were not set to the plough.
The soil is light and sandy and a little prone to wind-throw but
otherwise productive and broad arable fields are still the norm
hereabouts. Sadly the village no longer has its facilities as the
population has been insufficient to retain pub and shop but with
North Walsham nearby most of life's necessities are met. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but runs onward to completion in the early 21st century, a true reflection of the congregation size. This register is filmed on Microfilm MFRO/704 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. In recent times digitised copies have appeared on the major commercial sites aiding in the production of this transcript. Given these diverse sources it was a straightforward piece to prepare. |
