1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Edgefield St Peter & St Paul |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Edgefield lies in
northern Norfolk about 3 miles south of the small market town of
Holt. Edgefield is a rather linear settlement most of which is
built along the route of the B1110 road which connects Holt
through to Norwich. Other groups of properties can be found along
Rectory Road and at Edgefield Street roughly a mile further south.
Edgefield sits on the southern edge of the glacial feature of the
Cromer/Holt Ridge and the landscape is slightly more rolling as a
consequence, a downside is the rather stony nature of the
underlying soils which lend themselves more to grazing than the
usual arable of Norfolk. Early gazetteers show that the parish was
only 3/5ths arable unlike many in Norfolk. The gravelly bed also
provided material for road construction and the worked out pits
were subsequently used for waste disposal. |

Two standard 800-entry register books cover the period of this transcript, the second running onwards to completion at the start of the 21st century. The first register is filmed on Microfilm MF1658, the second on Microfilm MF1859. Both films are recent productions taking advantage of improved techniques to achieve clean & crisp images. In recent time digitised copies of these films have become available on the main commercial sites for those with a subscription. |
