1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Eccles St Mary |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Eccles lies southern Norfolk about 4 miles
south of the market town of Attleborough. Eccles sits about a mile east
of the busy A11 road which connects Norwich with Thetford and onwards
to London. There is very little to Eccles, farms and cottages scattered
around the grounds of Eccles Hall and its environs as well as more recent
development close by Eccles Road rail station, a halt, and request stop,
on the Norwich to Thetford rail line. Sitting on the edge of Norfolk's
Breckland Eccles would have had a mixed economy with arable farming supplemented
by sheep walks and rabbit warrenries. Today Eccles' peace and tranquility
is frequently broken by being next door to Snetterton Motor racing Circuit
occupying the former World War II airfield. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and was only recently deposited with Norfolk Record Office as it was only completed in 2008. This register is filmed on Microfilm MFRO708 which was used to prepare this transcript. This film is one of the more recent productions and benefits greatly from the better image quality that is achievable today making for a straightforward piece to prepare. |
