Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Earsham lies in extreme south of the county
in the valley of the River Waveney. Earsham lies within a tight meander
of the river just west of the Suffolk market town of Bungay. The village
was formerly traversed by the busy A143 road which makes a southern routeway
across Norfolk along its border with Suffolk. Earsham is a quite concentrated
village with an east-west high street following the A143 (now thankfully
bypassing the village to the north) and retains most of the facilities
including shops and pub. |

Two standard 800-entry register books form the basis for this transcription, the first completes in 1852, the second completes the transcription period and indeed runs on until 1896. Both books are filmed on Microfilm MF1388 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The film is relatively modern and of an acceptable quality with the majority of images clear and easy to read, however a few are rather faded presumably as a result of the state of the original registers. Despite these imperfections this was a relatively straightforward transcript to prepare although the are caveats regarding the handwriting which at time was trying. |
