Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Dunton (usually with donated as "cum
Doughton" which it absorbed in historical times) lies in northwestern
Norfolk. The parish is adjacent to the busy A148 just a couple of miles
west of the market town of Fakenham. There is no village as such to Dunton
just a scatter of farms and cottages with a small grouping along a lane
which leads south from the A148. Dunton sits on some higher ground just
west of the River Wensum, here only in its headwaters as it heads southeast
towards Fakenham and thence to Norwich. The area is intensively agricultural
although the soils are sandier and lighter than many parts of Norfolk. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of the transcript and indeed continued until the late 20th century. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1423 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and which was used for this transcript. This film is a more recent one and benefits from the improved technology of today with crisp and clear images throughout. The handwriting is challenging at times but on the whole this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped that few errors will have crept into its production. |
