The Diss Union Baptist sect was established some time around 1780 and covered not just the Diss area of Norfolk but also adjacent Suffolk. The present Tabernacle in Cock Street was erected in 1840 after the period of this register. The single surviving register was deposited at the National Archives where it carries their reference RG8/80, Norfolk Record Office does not have a copy of this register on Microfilm but various subscription services have it available and they were utilised in preparation of this transcript, their images were clear and simple to read. A not regarding numbering - entries were made in the register in family groups with each family allocated half-page, the numbering given represents the order in which the entries can be found and not one added by the clerk, the register has been resorted for this transcript into birth date order. |
