1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Diss Primitive Methodist Circuit |
Baptisms 1848 to 1880
The Diss Primitive Methodist Circuit was established in 1847 and covered a broad area of southern Norfolk and adjacent northern Suffolk. Whilst Diss' Mount Street Chapel was its notional headquarters, like other similar circuits, entries within this register are made by several clerks each contributing their own records into the central register. Two registers have been deposited for this circuit, that partially transcribed here covering to 1901 and a subsequent register continuing until 1967. The first register, deposited as reference FC74/27 is a standard parish style register of 8 entries per page and has been filmed on microfilm MF1776 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office. For those familiar with these circuit registers this one follows the difficulties of its fellows, a ragged and out-of-sequence order (created by submissions after the events by disparate clerks), unusual spellings (mostly left as written) and frequent inconsistencies in data (children apparently baptised prior to birth are not uncommon through clerical error). Despite these issues this was a straightforward piece to prepare. |
