Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Crownthorpe lies in central Norfolk about
2 miles northwest of the market town of Wymondham. Crownthorpe is located
just to the south of the B1135 road which links Wymondham with East Dereham.
There is not much to Crownthorpe, it really is little more than an extension
to the larger village of Wicklewood which lies immediately west. Crownthorpe
was formerly a chapel of ease to the larger parish and never fully developed
into a separate entity. Crownthorpe has a wide range of agricultural possibilities,
it has higher grounds which is almost exclusively used for cereals but
also the valley of a small tributary of the River Tiffey which has pastures.
Despite these advantages Crownthorpe is little more than a strip of properties
along the lane connecting Wicklewood to the B1135. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and continues to the late 20th century. This register is filmed on Microfiche 2 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office which was used as the base for this transcript, images are also available on the free web site Familysearch which were used to supplement the poor visual imagery of the fiche which are rather elderly. As a result of these images the piece was straightforward to prepare. |
