Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Crostwight is located in northeastern Norfolk
about 3 miles east of the market town of North Walsham. Crostwight has
no village as such merely an area of farms and cottages in a dense network
of parishes that exist between North Walsham and the nearby North Sea
coast. Crostwight is a tiny settlement and, judging by the brevity of
the transcript, was also so during the Victorian period. The parish contains
Crostwight Hall and this is perhaps indicative that this was a closed
parish with almost all land held by the lord of the manor who restricted
access. The area is largely agricultural, most arable and oil seed, but
a remnant remains of heathland on an area of poorer soils. |

A single standard 800-entry register book was finally deposited in 2018, the original transcript having been prepared from the incomplete BTs has now been replaced by a complete transcript prepared from this unfilmed register book which was viewed at Norfolk Record Office. Obviously in using the original book there will be no media issues and all entries were readable as a consequence making for a straightforward piece to prepare. |
