1813 to 1880 Baptism Project South Creake St Mary the Virgin |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of South Creake lies in central northern Norfolk
to the north-west of the market town of Fakenham and midway between there
and the coastal settlements of Burnham Market et al. The village lies
astride the B1355 in the valley of the River Burn which runs through the
village. Whilst the settlement is compact the parish is broad in extent
with large acreage of broad agricultural plateau to both east and west.
In former times these poor stony soils were dominated by sheep runs. |

The three registers covered by this transcript
were deposited in two depositions - the first of 2 standard 800 entry books
is filmed on microfiche 6 to 8, the third register, a much more recent deposit,
is filmed on microfiche 27 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office.
The early fiche are elderly in their filming and the quality is poor, the
images are faded and on occasion reference had to be made to BTs to verify
entries which were too faint to read, by contrast the latter deposit is
clear fresh and easy to read. Given the standard of the fiche on this occasion no absolute guarantees of accuracy can be given as the standard of handwriting varies markedly from the excellent to the downright scandalous. It is hoped that few errors will have crept in but there is an expectation that readers will turn some up. |
