Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The tiny parish of Coston lies in central Norfolk about
5 miles northwest of the market town of Wymondham. Coston sits, in lanes,
about a mile north of the B1108 road which connects the city of Norwich
with Watton. There is not much to Coston, merely a scatter of farms and
cottages with no obvious village centre. The area is intensively arable
with large fields on the higher ground and smaller pastures of the River
Yare which runs through the parish, here a rather small river indeed.
Coston parish was small indeed, it covered just 345 acres making it one
of Norfolk's smaller by area and possibly one of the smallest rural parishes
in the county. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but runs onwards to finish in 1968. This register is filmed on Microfiche 3 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office but images of the register are also freely available to view on Familysearch and these were used to prepare this transcript in place of the rather inadequate fiche. This short transcript reflects the low population of the parish which would have held around 50 parishioners. |
