Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Cawston sits to the north of the city of
Norwich and roughly midway between the market towns of Aylsham and Reepham.
Cawston is a substantial village sitting on the B1145 road linking those
two market towns. The village is thriving with shops, pubs and other essential
facilities making it an attractive place to live. |

The registers which form this transcript are
curious, there is a standard 1600-entry book which has been split into two
and separately filmed as well as a standard 800-entry book where the clerks'
have continued the numbering manually from the earlier registers giving
the impression that all is a single ledger. The whole are filmed on Microfiche
9 to 13 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. Despite this being an elderly filming the quality of the images is in the main part rather good. However, their are sections of the second half book which are poorer than the whole and are rather faint and difficult to read. At no time was it required to resort to alternative records for an image but transcription rates did noticeably slow. Almost inevitably in such a long transcription the hand-writing varies over the many authors and the usual caveats regarding quality of hand apply - strangely for once it was the later hands which were poorest. |
